New Friendships
Far away on a bright summer night,
Within a tree we see a light.
Upon looking in we see a gnome,
This is the place that he calls home.
Peeking through the hole we will see,
He's about to sit down for tea.
Glancing at the window sill,
He sees us under the moon's bright spill.
'Come in, come in', he beckons with a smile,
You seem to have travelled quite a few miles.
Thinking he seems like a friend,
we open the door and enter in.
With scones and jam upon our plates,
We talk and laugh till very late.
When dawn up in the sky does break,
Our eyes we rub, our heads we shake.
Saying we must now take leave,
The gnome replies, 'Do come again, please'.
Taking his hand in ours we promise,
To put that journey again upon us.
Turning and waving as we say goodbye,
Walking away into the morning sky.
Friendship comes in many forms,
We are glad to know ours, a gnome called Norm.

Nature's Struggle
Amber fingers tickle the sky,
Flames can be seen both far and wide.
The land is dry and ready to bake,
A careless cigarette is all it takes.
The fire expands and starts running wild,
Totally chaotic like an energetic child.
Death and destruction is in the air,
All living things moan and despair.
Once green growth, now charcoal and poor,
Burnt out skeletons litter the forest floor.
There is a bright side to the fever pitch,
Growth and regeneration will be the switch.
Fire brings destruction, smoke and heat,
But in the long run its benefits are neat.
Many fires rage across our vast land,
But nature doesn't need that extra hand.
